I am not a gym rat just a discipline warrior. Take a trip with me on how I prepared for my Spartan race to hit my goals and dominate the field.

There’s a moment in every race that defines you—not just as an athlete, but as a warrior, especially when you are over 40.
For me, that moment came barreling through mud, arms burning, lungs on fire, as I jumped over the fire and sprinted across the finish line. I didn’t just complete the Spartan Race—I conquered it. Out of hundreds of competitors, I placed 7th overall and took 1st in my age group.
How? I owe it all to one word: calisthenics.
The Foundation: Training Like a Warrior
I’m not your average gym-goer. I don’t spend hours on machines or stack endless plates. My training revolves around raw, functional movement—pull-ups, push-ups, dips, planks, squats, Nave Seal burpees, and explosive core work. It’s bodyweight mastery. It’s Spartan-ready.
My philosophy is simple:
“If you can move your own body with power, precision, and control—you can move through anything.”
My typical week includes less than you would think:
Calisthenics trains more than the body—it sharpens the mind. Every rep is a reminder: “You are the machine.”
The morning of the race was cool, misty, and charged with energy. I could see the hunger in every athlete’s eyes—but I knew I had an edge. While many trained in gyms, I trained for real-world movement.
From the opening sprint, I set a steady pace—controlled but aggressive. When the obstacles came, I flowed:
Monkey bars? Crushed them.
Rope climb? One pull at a time.
Bucket carry? Core locked, stride strong.
Wall climbs? Explosive power + body control = over and gone.
Where others struggled with grip and fatigue, I leaned into my calisthenics foundation. Obstacle after obstacle, my body responded like it was built for this—because it was.
As we came to the final obstacles I was still leading my heat and passing those from prior heats. I knew I was near the top. I passed a few younger guys on runs between obstacles, powered through the final carries, and turned on the jets. I crossed the finish line muddy, bloody, and smiling—because I had dominated the field.
7th overall. First in my age group.
A personal best—and a public statement.
This wasn’t just a physical victory. It was mental warfare. Calisthenics taught me patience, discipline, and endurance. When you train your mind to keep going through hundreds of bodyweight reps, a 5K obstacle course becomes a playground.
If you’re looking to crush your next Spartan Race—or just level up your fitness—ditch the machines and build the machine.
Start simple. Stay consistent. Master the basics:
Calisthenics isn't just training—it's preparation for anything life throws your way. You don’t need fancy equipment. You need commitment, grit, and a warrior’s mindset.
Let my journey be your spark. The next podium spot? It’s waiting for you.
I’m building a private club of men over 40 that are fitness warriors who want to take control of their performance and push their limits—no machines, no excuses.
Schedule a call if you want to join the Warrior Fight Club. Only the few will be up for the challenge. Let’s build a secret brotherhood of Warriors.
