When I looked at a picture of myself I realized I had given up. I had no muscle tone in my chest area and no time to spend at the gym. I decided to attempt the 100 day pushup challenge. Here are my results.
If you had read any of my blogs you may have already viewed the picture below. The picture on the left was pre-any system for working out. The picture on the right is after a year of continuous daily pushups.
I understand that there are men our there that have much larger or well defined chest muscles than I do, but for the time invested I would take my path 100 times over.
I want to share a little about my journey then share some additional benefits anyone contemplating attempting 100 pushup challenge will achieve as well.
First, what I decided to do was 100 pushups for 100 days, 200 pushups for 100 days, 300 pushups for 100 days, then 400 pushups for 65 days.
There are other varieties I have heard of adding a pushup a day for 365 so by the end you are doing 365 pushups, but I don't like keeping track of so many numbers.
It seemed like a much simpler process to mark my start and end date of each change in quantity.
These numbers may sound crazy especially since I could only do 10 pushups in a row when I started, but once I got rolling, I built strength very quickly building up to 50 at a time within a month or so.
That allowed me to expand the challenge to higher numbers. I could rip off 50-100 at a time morning and night and be done in less than 5 minutes.
It was a system that regardless of how busy I got I could pause before I got in the shower or once out and get my pushups in.
I still fit my pushups in 2 years later but have scaled them back to 200 per day as a nice steady base.
Below we will cover some of the other benefits to the 100 day pushup challenge:
This simple yet powerful exercise routine doesn't just target your upper body; it transforms your mindset, builds discipline, and offers a myriad of physical and mental benefits.
1. Physical Strength and Endurance:
The primary focus of the 100-Day Push-Up Challenge is, of course, physical strength. Push-ups engage multiple muscle groups, including the chest, triceps, shoulders, and core. As you progress through the challenge, you'll witness a significant improvement in your upper body strength and endurance.
2. Building Consistency and Discipline:
Completing a set number of push-ups every day for 100 days instills discipline. This routine teaches you the importance of consistency in reaching your goals. Small, daily efforts compound over time, and by the end of the challenge, you'll have developed a strong sense of discipline that can be applied to other areas of your life.
3. Establishing a Habit:
It takes about 21 days to form a habit. By committing to the 100-Day Push-Up Challenge, you go well beyond this threshold, making daily exercise a part of your routine. This habit-forming aspect of the challenge is crucial for those looking to adopt a healthier lifestyle in the long run.
4. Improved Posture and Core Stability:
Push-ups not only target the upper body but also engage the core muscles. As you progress through the challenge, you'll notice improved posture and increased core stability. This is particularly beneficial for individuals who spend long hours sitting at a desk, as it counteracts the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle.
5. Enhanced Mental Toughness:
Physical challenges often mirror mental challenges. Pushing through the fatigue and completing your daily push-ups requires mental toughness. Overcoming the mental hurdles during the 100-Day Push-Up Challenge can boost your confidence and resilience, both in fitness pursuits and daily life.
6. Accessible and Time-Efficient:
One of the most significant advantages of the push-up challenge is its accessibility. You don't need specialized equipment or a gym membership. You can perform push-ups anywhere and at any time, making it a time-efficient workout that easily fits into your schedule.
7. Community and Accountability:
Engaging in the challenge within a community (like on 40+ Warriors) or with friends fosters a sense of accountability. Sharing your progress, struggles, and achievements with others creates a supportive environment, motivating you to stay committed to the challenge.
The 100-Day Push-Up Challenge is more than just a physical exercise routine; it's a holistic approach to personal development. Beyond the visible changes in your physique, you'll experience a transformation in your mindset, habits, and overall well-being. So, lace-up your workout shoes, embrace the challenge, and discover the incredible journey of self-improvement that awaits you!
